Jim LePage : Word

I discovered Jim LePage’s Word project about a year ago and have kept a mental note to re-visit it once I had entered the blog-o-sphere ;)  He has created a contemporary graphic design for each book of the bible – a simple yet brilliant idea, with a profound end result. Instead of a long essay on biblical hermeneutics, the collection highlights both the beauty of some of the ideas found in the bible and some of the more curious and at times shocking (see his representations of the Psalms) texts we find in the bible. I think it is a very successful and  honest work that highlights some of the stranger parts of scripture that are avoided on the average kitsch Christian Waterfall-and-sentimental-bible-verse-poster. In terms of the potential of this collection of images as an Art Exhibit, I would love to see it displayed in contemporary Churches – or any church for that matter – as a discussion starter as well as a joyful visual feast for the eyes. What do others think?  Have a look at the full collection of images here.
